Baptists on the American Frontier: A History of Ten Baptist Churches of Which the Author Has Been Alternately a Member
Published in Hardcover by Mercer University Press (November, 1995)
Authors: John Taylor and Chester Raymond Young
Average review score:

John Taylor's biography & book: humble Pioneer Gospel Genius
The biography of Pioneer Baptist preacher, John Taylor (1752-1835, Virginia-Kentucky) was superbly researched and written by Chester Raymond Young, the editor. His annotation of John's pithy, and sometimes rambling discourse, on his 10 Baptist Churches in the Bluegrass and Ohio R. region of early Kentucky, really helps one to understand the history of the pioneer settlers. By reading the biography first, one gains a much deeper appreciation of who the people and family members are, whom John Taylor mentions in his book. This is a treasure trove for both geneologists and students of religion.

Best of Dee Brown's West: An Anthology
Published in Paperback by Clear Light Pub (December, 1997)
Authors: Stan Banash and Dee Brown
Average review score:

deserves 6 stars
If I could read only one writer about the American West, it would be Dee Brown. His Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a landmark. This anthology is exactly what I like - a smorgasboard of fascinating, factually accurate tales that fill in our understanding of the events, people and times of the Old West. Best of all, I feel he's clear-eyed and unencumbered by politics in describing American Indians and the conflicts and interactions with white Americans. Read it and pass it along!

Beyond the Final Frontier
Published in Paperback by Zondervan (06 June, 2000)
Average review score:

Very moving & gripping accounts of near death experiences.
Many readers will perhaps have heard numerous accounts of so-called 'near death experiences'. No doubt many of these experiences will have been dismissed through various medical explanations etc..

Here we are provided with perhaps a unique approach to this subject, by a qualified, now retired, medical practitioner who has personally compiled the true life experiences of some twenty six individuals.

Taking into account the possible medical explanations behind some such incidents, through extensive personal research he examines the common denominators in virtually all the experiences covered in this extraordinary book.

The stories are of various lengths and all are extremely moving, thought provoking and some of which are quite frightening. They even include the story of a three year old child who physically died in a terrible accident. In some incidents reference is also made to the medical records and statements from witnesses present at the time.

The incidents concerned here are examined from a Christian perspective and evaluated against what is taught in the Bible about such matters. This is the second such book written by the author. The first being entitled "The Final Frontier", which I now feel compelled to read as well. A web-site is available dealing with this subject in depth, the details of which are also included in the book.

Whether you are a scoffer, a sceptic or a believer, this book will not fail to grip and move you. The subject of 'near death experiences' will no doubt continue to fascinate us all, but like it or not death is something that we all have to face. It is difficult to see how anyone can fail to benefit from reading this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you.

The Big Bend: A History of the Last Texas Frontier
Published in Paperback by Texas A&M University Press (April, 1996)
Authors: Ronnie C. Tyler and Ron C. Tyler
Average review score:

The essential Big Bend reference
Ron Tyler's seminal work on the Big Bend of Texas is required reading for anyone who plans a trip to the "Texas Outback". This enchanting out-of-the-way part of Texas has invited explorers and adventurers for years and Tyler's historical treatment brings all the mystery and drama of the region to the surface for the modern traveler. The maps and historical photographs blend with the text to give the reader a "sense of place" that separates the Big Bend area from other southwestern landscapes. A must read for anyone interested in the remote lands of North America.

the Wildrose tradition continues
The second in Glover's Wildrose series, Bitter Thistle, Sweet Rose inroduces more inhabitants of Wildrose, a Canadian bush town. Linn has been jilted and wants to love again. A half-breed Indian is also seeking something to fill his empty heart. Hubert and Harry need someone to love and care for them. Great for Kids and Adults
This is one of my favorites for kids and adults! Ruth Pelz writes a collection of easy-to read, interest grabbing, brief biographies of important African Americans, some of whom you may not have heard about. You've gotta read it and pass it on! Written for all ages, it will help African Americans better appreciate their heritage while helping others become aware of the rich contributions African Americans have made to American culture. Many kids can devour it in a single sitting.
